Undergraduate Paid Internships

The Department of Biomedical Informatics and Medical Education (BIME) is recruiting undergraduate research assistants for paid internships focused on data science and health.

Text and Visual Analytics of Internet-Delivered Mental Health Data

This project is an opportunity to contribute to efforts to develop novel analysis methods for behavioral and mental health data. The datasets that you will be working with involve digital health interventions (education programs that are delivered using mobile apps, through the Internet, etc.). They involve many kinds of program usage data, data about usability perceptions, health outcomes, and text messages. The challenge is developing ways of integrating these data into analyses to derive insights about users. If you are interested in: working with many different kinds of data, text mining, visualization, and/or understanding users, this project is for you! Project deliverables include mockups, a prototype, and lab presentations. Requires familiarity with Python, JavaScript, D3, and/or other visualization packages. Applicants must be US citizens or hold a green card.

Exploring educational resources for electronic medical records

This project is an opportunity to learn about data sets, data models, and query tools for interacting with electronic medical records (EHR). You will contribute to research on the availability and access requirements for obtaining EHR tools and data sets for use by students in educational settings. For example, you will research a specific set of public data sets and tools that can be used to learn about healthcare data analytics. You will record information about each of these EHR resources and share what you learn with your faculty mentor for the project. Interested students are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be US citizens or hold a green card.
