GRE or Other Test Scores
GRE scores (or GMAT, MCAT, or DAT scores) are required for most applicants
Applicants who already hold a doctoral degree (PhD, DDS, MD, EdD, JD, etc.) from a regionally accredited U.S. institution are not required to submit GRE or other test scores.
However, applicants with doctoral degrees from institutions outside the U.S. must still submit GRE scores (or GMAT, MCAT, or DAT scores).
- Test scores must be from within the past five years.
English Language Proficiency
TOEFL scores are required for all international applicants unless they have earned a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution in one of the following countries:
Australia, the Bahamas, Canada, Ireland, Jamaica, New Zealand, Singapore, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Kingdom, or the United States.
- A minimum TOEFL iBT score of 102 is required to be exempt from Academic English Program (AEP) requirements.
-
TOEFL scores must be from a test taken within the past two years.
-
IELTS and Duolingo scores are not accepted.
Please note: The BIME Department requires the TOEFL exclusively. This policy is more restrictive than the UW Graduate School’s policy, which accepts other English proficiency tests.
