About UW Biomedical Informatics and Medical Education and CIPCT

The Department of Biomedical Informatics and Medical Education (BIME) has provided formal postdoctoral training since 1992, including the Clinical Informatics and Patient-Centered Technologies (CIPCT) Master’s program offered since 2004 in partnership with the School of Nursing. Our CI Fellowship program has been training fellows in partnership with the Department of Family Medicine since 2016.

Fellowship didactics and research project supervision are provided through the CIPCT program, an online degree program. This unique degree program blends courses in clinical informatics (e.g., Electronic Health Records, Databases, Computing Fundamentals, Systems Design and Project Management) with courses in care systems management (e.g. Managing Health Systems, Managing Clinical Effectiveness). Upon completion of the program, fellows receive a Master of Science degree.

BIME has over 400 alumni between the research-focused MS/PhD/postdoc tracks and the CIPCT MS program (See People).

As part of the university educational community, fellows enjoy a wide array of university resources, including the nationally-renowned Health Sciences Library and an expansive library system, both online and on campus. The University of Washington itself is situated in the beautiful city of Seattle, a veritable mecca for those who enjoy the beautiful outdoors and the diverse offerings of a big city. We look forward to your application and welcome your interest.
